1997: The term “weblog” is born
1997 was the first year the word ‘weblog’ was coined although web logs had been used prior to this!
The world’s first webcam
One of the more interesting developments of this era, though, was the first webcam. It was deployed at a Cambridge University computer lab, and its sole purpose was to monitor a particular coffee maker so that lab users could avoid wasted trips to an empty coffee pot.
What would email be like if it was invented TODAY?
We are all aware of email (I’m sure), but did you know it was invented more than 40 years ago, and without it the internet would have never existed.
Google have been hard at work designing a totally ‘new’ email – they teamed up with all the ‘big players’ in net-apps and will be delivering this to us… Google Wave – Have a look at this simple yet informative Youtube video of what it’s all about.
